AAR Talks with U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar About Hiring Veterans
Lawmaker from Minnesota applauds employment initiatives and economic growth in aviation
DULUTH, Minnesota – At AAR Aircraft Services, the buzz on Friday was all about economic development, hiring veterans and special guest U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar. The senator, in town for the dedication of a new terminal at Duluth International Airport, dropped by AAR’s new maintenance, repair and overhaul facility to tour one of the city’s latest economic engines tied to aviation.
“The new aircraft maintenance facility is a positive addition to the Duluth community, bringing good jobs and boosting economic development in the region,” Sen. Klobuchar said. “AAR’s effort to hire veterans is a good example of how businesses can help make sure our men and women in uniform are able to put their battle-tested skills to use when they return home.”
Sen. Klobuchar has focused national attention on employment of military veterans as troops return from deployments overseas. She spoke with Danny Martinez, Vice President, Technical Services, AAR Aviation Services Group, about the Company’s successful recruitment initiatives. Twenty percent of AAR’s workforce is made up of military veterans, and AAR has doubled its efforts to recruit through the military’s TAPS program in the last two years.
“We not only see hiring veterans as our patriotic duty,” Martinez said. “We see a highly skilled, highly technical pool of talent coming out of the military. Employment opportunities in aerospace are on the rise. Former military personnel transition smoothly into these careers, and we want them.”
